Triple Meter Rhythm Reading (Shamrocks)

Post date: Mar 16, 2015 7:48:05 PM

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Here are the 3rd graders singing the song "Shamrocks" while moving around the room to find shamrocks with triple meter rhythm patterns written on them. Each shamrock has a different pattern, so when students read their own they must focus because all around them they hear other patterns. The students have known how to identify meters as duple or triple, and they have been echoing and creating rhythm patterns for several years. Now that they are in 3rd grade, they are learning to associate written rhythm patterns with the patterns they know aurally and orally. This is called symbolic association. The student filming for 3A accidentally covered the microphone for part of this video. Oops!
