Creative Dance Project

Post date: Mar 12, 2013

Last week, 3rd graders created their own dances to the song "Pata Pata". This activity helped us practice our beat competency and to hear when phrases change. These were the only parameters they were given: (1) Your dance must have four different dance moves (one for each phrase), and (2) each dance move must be eight macrobeats long. They were allowed to be creative about everything else. Watch the video and take a look at the variety of dance moves the students came up with. Some used stationary movement the whole time, some used locomotor movement. Some groups used macrobeats for each move, others moved to microbeats. Some moves consisted of eight consecutive motions, and other motions were split into two groups of four. Many groups mixed up their use of hands and feet to feel the beat. One group even decided to add a vocal part to their dance. Enjoy!
